The Middlesex League is an adult chess league. We play matches weekday evenings – Monday to Thursday. Fixtures are both home and away, with home fixtures being played from 7.30-10pm at the Hendon Chess Club venue in Hampstead. Playing against adults is a vital way to improve your child’s chess. We have a team playing currently in Division 3 against teams that are – on paper – stronger than our juniors. Despite this, there have been some spectacular wins and the team has performed beyond expectations. When we first joined the league, we were performing at an average rating of 1442. Just 3 months later that average had increased to 1735.
Requirements to play for Hendon Barnet Knights in the Middlesex League
You must be a member of Barnet Knights Chess Club or Hendon Chess Club
If you’re a member of Barnet Knights Chess Club, you must attend the club at least once a term (though obviously if you minimise your attendance, then you will miss the top level training that occurs every week at the club)
You must be a member of Hendon Chess Club by your third or subsequent game for Hendon Barnet Knights (including any games played in previous seasons). Hendon membership gives you access to all other Hendon activities, and makes you eligible to play for other Hendon teams, subject to availability of places and ability. More details are on www.hendonchessclub.com
You must be rated over 1450 (unless you’re a member of Hendon Chess Club)
You must be an English Chess Federation Silver member or higher
